The world is slowly re-opening for travel and tourism. We recognize that as you book your next trip and head to YVR, it may be your first time at the airport in over a year. The experience will look different but know that we are ready for you. We have some important information to ensure your journey through YVR is safe and effortless.
IMPORTANT: All employees, passengers and people going through YVR must be fully vaccinated. More information here.
We’ve listed some tips below to make sure you are fully prepared to book your next trip and fly confidently.
Get ready for you trip by being well prepared:
Are you fully vaccinated? Is your passport valid? Do you have the right travel documentation? What are the requirements of where you’re travelling to? Do you know what you will need when you return? Are you fully vaccinated?
These are important questions to ask as you prepare for travel. Be sure that you have the right information and documentation, so your next trip is safe, effortless and fun.
- Understand the travel requirements of where you’re going and what you’ll need upon your return.
- Ensure your passport is current.
- Ensure you have your vaccine documentation.
- Ensure you have any other required documents (for example, travel visas).
Be sure to reference the latest information from Transport Canada, your airline and your destination to be ready to fly:
- Transport Canada, which provides the latest information on where Canadians can safely travel safely and with confidence.
- The travel advice and directives from your destination.
- Your airline, to be doubly sure about testing and quarantine requirements as well as how to prepare for check-in and what to expect onboard.
Where do you want to fly?
Within Canada or British Columbia
Leisure domestic travel across Canada is permitted. The Government of Canada requires all travellers 12 years and older to be fully vaccinated and carry proof of vaccination to board a plane from any Canadian airport.

To the U.S. or Another International Destination
If you’re travelling to or from the U.S. or internationally, the border process is more comprehensive. To start, the regulations outlined for boarding a flight within Canada also apply for U.S. and international travel.

Returning to Canada from the U.S. or another international destination
Upon arrival, all travellers regardless of how long they were away from Canada, continue to be required to submit their mandatory information via ArriveCAN (free mobile app or website), including proof of vaccination in English or French and a quarantine plan prior to arriving in Canada.
Make sure you have the most up to date version of ArriveCAN on your device.

Do you require testing before your you fly or upon arrival?
Some countries, including Canada, require pre-departure testing, testing on arrival or both.
At YVR, we have a number of pre-departure testing facilities. We’re also facilitating the mandatory testing on arrivals for international travellers.
Be sure to register for your testing in advance.

What to expect at YVR:
- Masks continue to be mandatory within the airport and onboard your flight.
- The airport continues to be cleaned at the highest standards through YVR TAKEcare, our health and safety program, which is designed to help you move through the airport safely and with confidence.
If you’re travelling to or from the U.S. or internationally for essential purposes, the border process is more comprehensive and you may require pre-departure testing, testing on arrival or both.

Fly Greener
Before you come to the airport, check into your flight, and make sure you have your airline’s mobile app or use iPhone Wallet or WalletPasses to download your boarding pass to your mobile device. This not only saves paper and time, but it also allows you to have a touchless journey at YVR.
